Britney Spears faces no charges after allegedly ‘slapping phone out of housekeeper’s hand’ in row over dogs

Britney Spears has avoided criminal charges after allegedly slapping a phone out of her housekeeper’s hand in a row over her dog.

The District Attorney for Ventura County said there was insufficient evidence to bring charges against the singer due to a lack of injury to the housekeeper or significant damage to the phone.

The housekeeper called authorities after the alleged dispute with Ms Spears over veterinary care of her dog on August 16 .

Britney owns a white Maltese that she bought for $5,568 (£4,039.72) and a Yorkie named Hannah, which she allegedly purchased for $8,212 (£5,958.01), according to Page Six.

It comes after TMZ reported that Ms Spears’ two dogs fell “seriously ill” and one was even “close to death” after an alleged row over their dietary requirements.

A source told the outlet that the housekeeper believed the only way to save the animals was by taking them to the vet and keeping them away from Ms Spears.

They have been returned to the singer after being given the all clear by a vet and the housekeeper has been dismissed, according to reports.

When it was revealed sheriff’s deputies were investigating, Ms Spears attorney Mathew Rosen called the incident “overblown” and “manufactured”.

Hs said: “Anyone can make an accusation but this should have been closed immediately.”

It comes after Ms Spears‘ legal team accused the singer’s father of trying to “extort” her as they called on him to immediately step down from his daughter’s conservatorship.

Jamie Spears, 69, has agreed to relinquish control of the pop superstar’s finances, however he has given no timeline for doing so.

Mr Spears has overseen his daughter’s multimillion dollar estate since she was deemed incapable of looking after herself in 2008.

She has fought to have him removed from the role.
