A Scottish businessman has been arrested in India on suspicion of rape, police in Delhi say.

The man was reported to police by a woman who said he broke his promise after tricking her into having sex with him by saying he would marry her.

He was reportedly in a relationship with the 30-year-old complainant for five months, and she is said to have gone to police after finding out he was also in a relationship with another woman.

He reportedly met the woman online during a business exchange, and she claims she initially resisted his sexual advances, but consented when he said he would marry her.

Under Indian law, it is considered rape if a woman consents to sex under false pretenses.

If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.

The man is being held in police custody for 14 days while the case is investigated.
