Brad Pitt has surprised Finnish art critics by unveiling an unannounced debut exhibition of his sculpture works.

The actor’s designs will be featured alongside ceramic pieces by Australian musician Nick Cave in a larger exhibition by his friend, the British artist Thomas Houseago.

The Sara Hildén Art Museum in Finland’s third-largest city of Tampere is hosting the exhibition and the three men involved attended on Saturday.

Mr Pitt, who described his ability as “self taught” said: “For Nick and I this is a new world and our first entry. It just feels right.”

He has nine works at the show, including a moulded plaster panel depicting a gunfight and a house-sized structure shot with bullets.

Reportedly, he took up pottery after his divorce from Angelina Jolie in 2017 and spent up to 15 hours per day working in Mr Houseago’s studio.

A statement from Mr Pitt read: “To me it’s about self-reflection. It’s about where I have gotten it wrong in my relationships, where have I misstepped, where am I complicit.

“For me, it was born out of ownership of what I call a radical inventory of self, getting really brutally honest with me and taking account of those I may have hurt, moments I have just gotten wrong.”

Mr Cave pursued art before taking up music and has put forward 17 hand-painted ceramic figurines - showing the life of the devil.
