The wife of Australian golfer Jason Day was taken to hospital on a stretcher after basketball star LeBron James crashed into her during an NBA game.

Ellie Day, the wife of PGA Tour golfer Jason Day, was sitting in courtside seats to watch the game between Cleveland and Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday evening.

James, a four-time MVP, was chasing the ball after it was thrown by opposition players when he overshot the court and lost his footing.

The 6ft 8in player tumbled into the crowd and landed on Mrs Day, causing her chair to buckle with the weight.

She was later placed in a neck brace and taken to hospital on a stretcher accompanied by her husband, who was watching the game alongside her at the Quicken Loans Arena.

ESPN reported Mrs Day was “alert and talking” as she was taken to the ambulance, but was kept in hospital overnight for observation.

James told ESPN: “It wasn't anything out of the usual besides the injury.

“But to me, obviously her health is very important, and hopefully she's doing well. The guys told us she's doing great now.

“So, but you know, I was going for a loose ball. Just trying to keep the possession going, and I hate that that was the end result of it.”
