Barack Obama and actor Bill Murray filmed playing mini-golf in Oval Office

US President Barack Obama and comedy actor Bill Murray have been filmed playing mini-golf in the White House Oval Office.

With just over five weeks to go until the US President hands his job to Donald Trump, Mr Obama welcomed the Groundhog Day star into his office for a game of mini-golf.

The unlikely duo exchanged banter about baseball as they tried to putt the golf ball into a glass on the Oval Office floor.

Murray, who also appeared in Ghostbusters and Lost in Translation, is shown getting two holes in one while the Commander in Chief fares less well, missing twice.

'That's a nice stroke': The duo exchange quips while putting in the Oval Office.

The 66-year-old actor tells the President: "It’s probably not a coincidence that your popularity is at an all time high. So I would just stick with this if I were you. I would just ride this baby."

But the video, posted online by the White House, has a serious message and was recorded to urge people to sign up for health insurance.

As Murray bends down he complains about his knee hurting, prompting the US leader giving him some healthcare advice.

Mr Obama says: "Well look Bill, you don’t have to go without health insurance because these days – because of the Affordable Care Act anybody can get health insurance, and it doesn’t matter if you already have something wrong with you, because insurance companies have to take you even if you have a pre-existing condition."
