Amsterdam has become “lawless” because of disruptive behaviour from Brits on pub crawls and stag parties, the city’s ombudsman has said.
Arre Zuurmond said that the city has “no authority” and “police can no longer handle the situation” after dark because of the “out of control” behaviour.
He said that the city becomes “lawless” after dark especially in the red light district with groups of men prowling the streets.
Mr Zuurmond moved into the centre of Amsterdam for two weeks to see problems in the city and said that many of those involved were either from the UK or other parts of the Netherlands.
He told Trouw newspaper that the “city centre becomes an urban jungle at night” and “police can no longer handle the situation".
He claimed that there was open drug dealing, and drag racing throughout the city.
“One night we counted 900 offences. There is violence but no action.
"You can even pee on the van of a mobile (police) unit and the driver won't say anything."
In May, Amsterdam warned British and Dutch tourists who “party excessively” that they could face fines of around 100 euros.
The Enjoy and Respect campaign targets men aged between 18 to 34 years visiting the city.
Tourists found caught urinating in the streets and late-night singing outside homes and residences can be fined around 140 euros (£124).
Earlier this year, England fans were pictured throwing beer over tourists on sightseeing boats and throwing bikes into the canal before a friendly match against Holland.
