A man who was declared dead has turned up at his family’s home in Kazakhstan two months after his own burial ceremony.

Aigali Supygaliev was pronounced dead after DNA tests on a badly burnt body revealed a 99.2 per cent match. He had gone missing a month previously.

Authorities issued a death certificate and the remains were buried in September in a Muslim cemetery of Tomarly, the family’s home town.

But two months later Mr Supygaliev, 63, simply turned up back at the home and walked through the door, leaving his family stunned.

"When Uncle Aigali walked through the door hale and hearty two months after we'd buried him, my daughter Saule nearly dropped dead of a heart attack," his brother Esengali told the Azh.kz news site.

Mr Supygaliev had left the home in June but failed to return. He had been known to wonder off “for a week or two before”, explained his brother, so the family did not call the police for a month.

After returning, he explained that he had been offered work in a nearby village from a man he had met in the market.

Four months later, once the work was finished, he walked back to Tomarly to find his family dumbfounded.

It is not known who the remains buried by the family actually belonged to.

The Supygalievs are reportedly considering legal action, after returning pension payments for two months and paying for a gravestone and stone shrine.
