Actor dies after being stabbed with a samurai sword during rehearsal

A Japanese actor has died after being stabbed in the stomach with a samurai sword during rehearsals at a theatre group.

Daigo Kashino, 33, was rehearsing at a studio in Tokyo with a group of people on Monday when the incident occurred.

He was rushed to hospital but died hours later.

Police in the Japanese capital are investigating whether the death was criminal or accidental.

Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported that other members of the theatre group said they saw Kashino hunched over as they turned around after hearing him groan.

It is not known whether the weapon was a real of mock samurai sword.
