Ryan Reiss holds up two bricks of $100 bills after claiming the $8.4million first prize at the World Series of Poker.

The 23-year-old Las Vegas-based poker professional beat Jay Farber in a dramatic three-and-a-half hour session that ended after midnight.

“I want to thank my family and my friends, they’re the best friends in the world,” he said, his voice choked with tears.

Asked how such a young player came in with so much confidence, he said, “I just think I’m the best player in the world.”

Riess came out on top of a field of 6,352 entrants in the no-limit Texas Hold `em tournament which began in July.
