To compete with rivals Sainsbury's and Tesco, Morrisons has revived its More Card loyalty programme, which allows customers to earn points.

Supermarkets are vying for customers who need discounts to make ends meet, as the cost-of-living crisis worsens.

“Customers have been telling us how much they have missed the Morrisons Fivers and so we’ve brought them back as part of an overhaul of the Morrisons loyalty scheme,” said Rachel Eyre, of Morrisons.

What is the Morrisons More scheme?

Customers can earn points through the Morrisons More programme, which takes the place of the My Morrisons scheme and is available as an app or card.

This will apply to a few products that are sold in-person, online, and at Morrisons petrol stations.

In addition, Morrisons is reintroducing “Morrisons Fivers”, where customers receive £5 credit towards a future purchase once they have accumulated 5,000 points.

Customers can currently receive 100 points for every £5 spent on pizza or 500 points for every £5 spent on a five-pack of 89 doughnuts.

Customers of Morrisons More can also get discounts. One-litre spirits are £17 this week, Pringles are £1.25, and every Friday, fresh seafood is 20 per cent off at the counter.

The product discounts are comparable to those offered by Tesco Clubcard.

The Co-op has also disclosed plans to lower pricing for clients who join as members, saving the typical shopper, according to claims, up to £300 annually.

Additionally, more cardholders will receive customised offers, unexpected incentives like goodies for Halloween, as well as basket bonuses like gift cards, or discounts from certain counters, like Market Stall, and on petrol.

One point is awarded for every £1 spent at Sainsbury's and Tesco, in contrast to the new Morrisons programme.

With Tesco Clubcard, you receive vouchers worth £2.50 for every 250 points amassed. However, with Sainsbury’s Nectar, you only receive vouchers worth £2.50 for every 500 points.
