The yellow weather warning is in force for all of England and Wales from 9pm on Wednesday, with the possibility of gusts reaching 70 mph in some parts.
The two country’s are expected to experience strong winds accompanied by heavy and blustery showers on Wednesday evening which will continue into Thursday.
Gusts of 50 to 55 mph are also possible inland, the Met Office said.
The wind warning is in place for all of England and Wales until 3pm on Thursday.
In London, the city is set to see a “very windy” start to the day on Thursday with gales in places along with further heavy showers.
But winds will ease slightly leaving a day of sunshine and heavy showers with the maximum temperature fetching up to 11 °C.
The Met office said Londoners should also expect Friday to stay windy with sunshine and a chance of heavy showers.
“Perhaps some heavier rain on Saturday with a further risk of gales,” it added.
But Sunday will be dry and bright.
