A UK ticket-holder is celebrating a record £84.4m windfall after hitting the EuroMillions jackpot.

Camelot, operator of The National Lottery, confirmed it had paid out the prize money but said the winner had opted to remain anonymous.

The ticket-holder has been catapulted into first place on the National Lottery Rich List, ahead of Nigel Page and Justine Laycock, who won a £56m EuroMillions jackpot in February.

It is not known if the prize - £84,451,321 - belongs to an individual or a syndicate.

A National Lottery spokesman said: "We are unable to confirm whether the ticket-holder is an individual or part of a syndicate, however they will now be offered the full support of Camelot's Winner Services Team.

"As with all major jackpot winners, they will receive independent financial and legal advice as well as on-going personal support.

"In addition, several previous jackpot winners have offered their support and best wishes."

If the ticket is held by an individual, they would be the 789th richest person in the country, according to the Sunday Times Rich List 2010.

Based on figures in the survey released last month, they are just shaded by pop star Robbie Williams and Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, who are both worth £85m.

But they are wealthier than the likes of former James Bond actor Sir Sean Connery (£80m), rock guitarist Jimmy Page (£75m) and comedian and actor Rowan Atkinson (£70m).
