The UK has recorded a further 23 deaths of people who had tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 28 days, and 4,654 new cases.

The daily coronavirus deaths figure is up from the 19 recorded on Sunday and brings the UK total to 126,615. The number of new cases marks an increase from the 3,862 recorded a day earlier.

The data also showed that 30.44 million people have now had a first dose of the vaccine, while 3.67 million have had a second dose.

The latest figures were revealed as Boris Johnson prepared to lead a Downing Street coronavirus press briefing, alongside chief medical officer Professor Chris Whitty and chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance.

Monday saw friends and relatives reunited in parks and gardens across England as the country marked a significant milestone in the government’s road map out of lockdown. Two households or groups of up to six from several households are allowed to socialise outdoors and even picnic.
