UK man dies in Majorca hotel plunge

12 April 2012

A British holidaymaker fell to his death from a hotel window in Majorca.

The 20-year-old university student, named in reports as Mark David Day, was staying at the Majorca Beach hotel in Magaluf.

A spokesman for Thomas Cook said: "Thomas Cook can confirm the tragic death of one of its guests while on holiday in Majorca.

"The company would like to express its sincere sympathy to the family."

According to newspaper reports, Mr Day was playing cards with two friends and had to run along the hotel corridor in just his socks and underwear as a forfeit for losing.

He could not stop at the end of the passage and fell out of the fifth-floor window, plunging 40ft, the reports said.

Local police were trying to contact his next of kin after Sunday's incident.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We can confirm that a British national has died in Magaluf," but refused to comment further.
