Two killed after car hits bridge

A young woman and a teenage boy have been killed after their car crashed into a railway bridge.

A 23-year-old man remains in a critical condition in hospital following the crash in Lanesfield, Wolverhampton.

Another 17-year-old boy was taken to hospital and later discharged, West Midlands Police said.

Trains travelling between Birmingham and Wolverhampton were stopped while the emergency services attended and damage to the bridge was assessed.

The line has since reopened but part of Spring Road remains closed to traffic.

A police spokesman said: "Two people, a 20-year-old woman and a 17-year-old male, were confirmed dead at the scene.

"Two people, males aged 17 and 23, were taken to hospital.

"The 17-year-old has subsequently been discharged, the 23-year-old remains in hospital in a critical condition."
