Two held in Heathrow security scare

Metropolitan Police have arrested two people in a security alert at Heathrow Airport
12 April 2012

At least two people were arrested tonight as a passenger jet was grounded in an apparent security scare at Heathrow Airport.

Armed police boarded a Dubai-bound Emirates flight but were not believed to have found any suspicious substances.

The incident comes amid heightened tension at airports across the world in the wake of the botched Christmas Day bombing.

A police source confirmed there had been two arrests and said passengers remained on the jet, which had been due to take off at 8pm, but added nothing had been found.

One passenger told Sky News armed police boarded a flight and took a man off in handcuffs.

Cameron McLean told the channel: "Police just swarmed the guy and rushed him out. I think he was a white male. There was another one but I didn't see him."

He said the man was taken out in handcuffs then sniffer dogs were brought on board.

A Scotland Yard source confirmed the incident occurred on a plane, believed to be an Emirates jet.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: "We are aware of a security incident at Heathrow. The airport and terminal remains open."

An airport spokesman said: "I can confirm there has been an incident on the EK004 flight to Dubai. Police are attending. It's not affecting the rest of the airport which remains opens."
