A man who died after falling from an an e-scooter in Twickenham has been named.

A 53-year-old man - named localled as shopkeeper Anthony Mumford - was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition. He died from his injuries on Thursday, 22 July.

Reports suggest he was in a coma until his death. It is not clear if the scooter was owned privately or was hired.

His next of kin has been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

A post-mortem examination will take place in due course, police confirmed today.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing and police today make a fresh appeal for information. No other vehicles are thought to have been involved in the incident.

Mr Mumford owned a cobbler and key cutting shop, Toe-Knees Shoe Repairs.

His partner Cheryl said to Twickenham Nub News: “Tony has received the most amazing care over the last 5 days and we were always encouraged that there was hope of him recovering, even though he has suffered too many injuries to list, with sadly his biggest injury being on his brain.

“It was not possible for them to stop the swelling and believe me, they tried everything. Sedation was stopped on Tuesday and myself, Tony’s daughters, and my sons were asked to go and say our last goodbyes.

“Please pass on our gratitude for the overwhelming kind words of support from everyone in the community. The words have kept me going in the darkest of hours.”
