Three children have been taken to hospital after a bouncy castle broke free from its tether.

North Yorkshire Police said officers were called to the White House Hotel on the West Cliff in Whitby at 2.40pm on Sunday.

The most seriously injured youngster was a seven-year-old boy who was airlifted to James Cook Hospital, in Middlesbrough, with broken bones.

A force spokesman said his condition was not believed to be life threatening.

He said a seven-year-old girl thought to have suffered concussion and a nine-year-old boy, who broke a bone in his leg, were taken by ambulance to Scarborough District Hospital.

The spokesman said: "All three remain in hospital in stable conditions.

"The bouncy castle was recovered with the help of officers from the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service."
