Tories double lead over Labour

12 April 2012

The Tories have doubled their lead over Labour over the past month, according to an opinion poll.

The ComRes poll for The Independent put the Conservatives on 40%, two points up on last month and 14 points ahead of Labour who are down five points on 26%.

The Liberal Democrats are up three points on 20% while the other parties remain unchanged on 14%.

The findings make grim reading for Labour ahead of this week's local government elections in England and Wales, suggesting that the Government has been hit by the row of the scrapping of the 10p tax rate.

According to The Independent, the Conservatives would regain power with a Commons majority of 62 if the results were repeated at a general election.
