Richard Hammond and James May's images have been deleted from the Top Gear website - fuelling rumours they will not continue to host the show.

The stars' contracts expired around a week after co-host Jeremy Clarkson was axed by the BBC following a "fracas" with a producer.

And the futures of Hammond and May remain unclear after the pair hinted they would be unwilling to continue without their 54-year-old co-host.

The Top Gear site now includes only an image of 'The Stig'

The motoring show's website previously showed the three men alongside the famous white helmet of 'The Stig' racing driver.

But the images of Hammond and May - as well as Clarkson - have since been removed from the site.

After his contract expired on Tuesday, May said: "The contract was coming to an end anyway. I honestly, seriously don't know what's going to happen."

But he added: "I doubt it's the end of Top Gear."

Clarkson is scheduled to appear alongside May and Hammond for a series of live shows which will not feature Top Gear branding.

A BBC Worldwide spokesman said the plan to go ahead with the live shows had been hatched "so as not to disappoint the thousands of people around the world who have already purchased tickets".
