A British toddler has fallen to her death from a high-rise apartment in Singapore.
Police are investigating what happened to the three-year-old, who was pronounced dead by ambulance staff following the incident at Fraser Residence Orchard, an upmarket block in the centre of the city-state.
Her devastated family left their apartment after the tragedy on Monday, a Fraser Residence spokeswoman said.
"The family want to keep everything very private because they are still grieving," she said. "We are going to respect their wishes because they are going through a tough period."
A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We can confirm the death of a British national in Singapore on August 1. We have provided consular assistance to the family."
Fraser Residence Orchard describes itself as "a sanctuary from the bustle of the city" with spacious interiors and minimalist decor.
The child fell into a pool-side area at the residence, reportedly after climbing over a balcony.
Frasers Hospitality, the company which owns the apartment block, said in a statement: "A three-and-a-half-year-old girl was found at the pool deck of Fraser Residence Orchard at approximately 6.15pm on August 1 and she was pronounced dead when the police arrived.
"It is understood that the police have ruled out foul play."
