Three men have been charged over the alleged theft of £20,000 worth of biscuits from a factory in South Wales.

Officers from Gwent Police were called to Burton’s Food Ltd – the makers of Jammie Dodgers, Wagon Wheels and Maryland cookies – in Cwmbran after an early morning raid on June 17.

In an ensuing appeal, detectives said an articulated lorry full of cookies and biscuits had been stolen.

Three months after the incident, police said three men had been charged.

A police spokesman said a 27-year-old man from the Cheshire area had been charged with three counts of theft, handling stolen goods and driving without insurance and a 36-year-old man from the Liverpool area had been charged with two counts of theft, handling stolen goods and taking and driving away.

A third man, a 35-year-old also from the Liverpool area, has been charged with two counts of theft.

Gwent Police declined to name the three men when approached by the Evening Standard.

All three men will appear at Newport Magistrates’ Court on September 29.
