Nine children have been injured after a bouncy castle came loose from its moorings before an inflatable slide blew over at a carnival.

Dorset Police said the youngsters were treated by paramedics at Swanage Carnival shortly before 2pm on Wednesday.

The inflatable slide belonged to a private stallholder attending the carnival and police said the Health and Safety Executive had been informed of the incident.

The South West Ambulance Service said two children were taken to hospital in Poole after complaining of neck pain.

Officers have remained at the scene and are due to hold talks with organisers of the carnival.

A police spokeswoman said: "In total, nine children were treated at the scene.

"Most were described as walking wounded and were cared for by on-site paramedics before going home. None of the injuries sustained are being described as serious."

An air ambulance also attended the scene but was stood down.

Earlier this year, seven-year-old Summer Grant, from Norwich, died after the bouncy castle she was playing on was blown away by a gust of wind in Harlow, Essex.

Later, Dorset Police said that a giant inflatable slide belonging to a private stallholder had come loose.

A spokeswoman said: "Most were described as walking wounded and were cared for by on-site paramedics before going home.

"Of that nine, one child was taken to hospital as a precaution and three were taken to the minor injuries unit at Swanage Hospital for a further assessment.

"None of the injuries sustained are being described as serious. Information will be passed on to the Health and Safety Executive."
