Thousands of people have spoken of their joy after a woman shared a heartwarming image of a schoolboy kindly carrying a pensioner’s shopping bag.

Emma Cope was getting out of her car on Wednesday afternoon when she saw the charming youngster approach an elderly man.

She was so impressed that she shared a photograph of the boy alongside the man, who was walking with a crutch, holding his bag.

Ms Cope said the boy asked the pensioner: "Excuse me, do you need some help with your bag?"

She added that the delighted man answered: “Oh yes please.”

The 28-year-old, from Kingstanding in the West Midlands, said on Facebook: “The parents of this young man should be so proud as you have obviously brought up a polite and caring young lad.”

She said that the event showed that “kindness is still out there”.

The post has triggered tens of thousands of ‘likes’ and responses on the social media site.

One person wrote: “Parents must be so proud bringing up a son to be so caring."

“What a caring lovely young lad," another added.

Ms Cope told the Standard: “I was getting out my car and just happened to see the boy stop and turn around and ask the man if he could help him with his bag.

“The boy didn't seem to know the man. I was happy to hear such polite and kindness.”

She added that the response to her Facebook post has come as a surprise.

“At first I had a couple of hundred likes then it hit thousands and thousands of shares. I am still amazed,” she said.
