Theresa May dancing video: PM does the robot on stage to ABBA before speech at Conservative Party conference

Sophie Williams3 October 2018

Theresa May has been criticised for choosing to dance onto the stage at the Conservative Party conference before delivering her speech.

The Prime Minister walked onto the stage to ABBA’s Dancing Queen as a way of hitting back at her critics after she was filmed showing off her moves during a trip to Kenya.

Mrs May also made reference to her disastrous speech last year in which she lost her voice, choosing to joke about her coughing fits and the collapsing backdrops in 2017.

Soon after her entrance, social media erupted. One person claimed “Theresa May has ruined ABBA.”

MPs even waded in on the criticism.

While others praised her entrance.

Dan Wooton wrote: "Wow Theresa May, that took some guts. Dancing queen indeed."

During her speech, Mrs May called for "politics that unites us, rather than divides us".

She told the crowd: "If we come together, there's no limit to what we can achieve. Our future is in our hands."
