The Queen sent her second ever Tweet today, thanking members of the public for sending her their best wishes on her 90th birthday.

The Queen wrote: “I am most grateful for the many digital messages of goodwill I have received and would like to thank you all for your kindness."

The message was shared on the Royal Family's twitter account. A second post said the message was sent personally by her majesty.

“This tweet was personally sent by Her Majesty The Queen.”

The goodwill message was accompanied by a picture of the Queen on an iPad writing the tweet.

Queen Elizabeth sent her first ever tweet in October 2014 when she opened the Information Age gallery at the Science Museum.

In April, Buckingham Palace posted a job advert for someone to run the Queen’s social media, offering a £50,000 a year salary for the Head of Digital Engagement role.

The Royal Family's Twitter account has more than 2.35 million followers and has sent more than 23,000 Tweets.
