Tesco to stop selling curved croissants because Brits are too lazy to spread jam on them

The supermarket will only stock straight varieties which can be covered with spread "in a single sweeping motion"
Straight croissants are better for spreading, according to Tesco

Tesco has announced it will only sell straight croissants instead of the traditional curved variety of the French pastry.

The supermarket giant said it was ditching the more authentic crescent-shaped pastries because British people find it trickier to spread jam on them.

This has resulted in falling demand for curved croissants, Tesco claimed.

Harry Jones, from Tesco, said: “At the heart of the move away from curved croissants is the ‘spreadability’ factor.

Crescent croissants will be absent from the shelves

“The majority of shoppers find it easier to spread jam, or their preferred filling, on a straighter shape with a single sweeping motion.

“With the crescent shaped croissants, it’s more fiddly and most people can take up to three attempts to achieve perfect coverage, which increases the potential for accidents involving sticky fingers and tables.”

While the French are famous for their croissants, the pastry’s origins lie in Austria and a crescent-shaped roll called a kipferl. They are made by layering the dough with butter then rolling and folding it several times.
