Teenager stabbed to death

12 April 2012

A murder inquiry was under way after a 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death.

Police were called to reports of a disturbance in Salford, Greater Manchester, shortly after 11pm on Friday.

Officers found the teenager in New Lane, Winton, with serious stab wounds to the abdomen.

He was taken to Hope Hospital where he died a short time later.

No-one else was injured in the incident, police said.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Officers want to hear from any witnesses who could assist the investigation."

Anyone with any information should call 0161 872 5050 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Police have secured two cordons at the scene of the incident - one at the end of Florence Street and the other a short distance between the junctions of Sarah Street and Lavinia Street in New Lane.

It is understood the stabbing took place in the street and the victim may have staggered between the two cordoned areas. A Texaco petrol station lies between the two crime scenes but remains open for business.

There were no signs of forensic teams at the scene but uniformed officers were dotted around manning the area.
