Teenager charged over stab death

12 April 2012

A teenager has been charged with the murder of a semi-professional footballer stabbed to death outside a nightclub.

Oliver Kingonzila, 19, was knifed following a fight outside the E Bar, Croydon, south London, in the early hours of Saturday.

Triston Burke, 18, of Stanton Road, Croydon will appear at Croydon Magistrates' Court on Wednesday charged with his murder.

Mr Kingonzila was the 26th teenager to meet a violent death in the capital this year.

An 18-year-old also arrested in connection with the attack has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Mr Kingonzila, from Croydon, was described as a "gentle giant" by friends, and was studying business at college.

He had captained the Barnet under-19 football team and the England Colleges FA in a match against Italy.

His older brother Herve, 27, died of a heart attack while playing football earlier this year.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to contact the police incident room on 020-8247 7821 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
