12 April 2012

A science teacher has admitted that he assaulted a pupil at his school.

Peter Harvey, 50, admitted attacking the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, during a lesson at All Saints' Roman Catholic School in Mansfield.

But the teacher denied attempting to murder the boy and a second charge of intending to cause him grievous bodily harm.

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court, Harvey spoke only to confirm his name and plead guilty to one count of grievous bodily harm without intent to cause serious injury.

He appeared clean-shaven and dressed in a green jacket and blue suit and tie.

Harvey will next appear in court on January 22. A trial date has been fixed for April 26.
