UKIP have been blasted over a Twitter post saying “stabbings are a daily event in Sadiq Khan’s London”.following a fatal stabbing on a train in Surrey.

The far-right group has been mocked for linking the death of father Lee Pomeroy in Surrey to London's violent crime rate.

Mr Pomeroy was today named as the father of one who was fatally stabbed in front of his 14-year-old son on a train near Horsley.

Reacting to the news, UKIP tweeted: “Stabbings are now a daily event in Sadiq Khan's London.

"This must never become normal. There are no excuses Mr Khan - they are not 'part and parcel of living in a big city'.

“The murderer must be caught and brought to justice.”

Many hit out at the group’s tweet.

One person wrote online: “This occurred on a train outside of London and the British Transport police, a UK-wide force, are responsible for policing trains.

“Try to use facts next time, or just don’t comment.”

Another wrote: “Saqid Khan is now mayor of Surrey, according to UKIP.”

Tim Eastwood wrote: “Note self: check Google maps for where this happened and just how far outside of Khan’s remit this was. I’ll wait…”

Another wrote: “Policing on the railways is down to the British transport police. So not only did the crime not happen in London.

“But even if it had mayor Khan would have no say in the policing on railway. So you should be tweeting at Chris Grayling MP”

The group did not reply to the messages or tweet a response to the criticism.
