Volunteers from the Samaritans are planning to take to the streets of Bridgend to talk to young people.
A total of 17 youngsters from the area in South Wales are thought to have taken their lives in little more than a year.
Samaritans branch director Darren Matthews said he hoped the one-off event designed to reach out to people would become a regular occurrence from April.
"We're taking volunteers on to the streets to give support to anyone who might need it. We're reaching out to those who won't come to us."
He said he had been trying to get the idea off the ground for some time, but decided to bring in volunteers from branches across Wales tonight because of the current situation.
He added: "I had a conversation with a member of the public this week who told me they had seen emotionally distressed people on the streets of Bridgend last week.
"I thought, 'What can I do to help these people?' The only thing I could think of was to be there for them on the streets."
Between 10 and 15 Samaritans volunteers are expected to be available for people to talk to.
