Police have made an arrest in an investigation into a video of a woman who racially abused a security guard at a Wetherspoons pub in Birmingham.

Police said a woman, 24, was arrested in connection with the video after she handed herself into a police station on Monday.

The footage quickly went viral after the shocking incident, which took place outside the Figure of Eight in Broad Street on Saturday evening, was shared by the victim on Instagram.

It shows a female customer being politely refused entry before she shoves the man and launches a racist attack.

She refers to the man as a black c**t and uses the n-word before spitting towards him as she walked away.

The man captioned the video: “I haven’t been doing security for years like some, but in the short time I’ve been doing it I’ve seen and been through pretty much anything there is to see and go through whilst doing this job.

“This however is something I or anyone who looks like me shouldn’t have to go through. There was a time I’d go through things like this and brush it under the carpet but them times are over. Share and find out who this is.”

The encounter, which is understood to have been filmed by a fellow customer, went viral on Sunday evening and has since been widely shared across Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

It was met with outrage with users slamming the bystanders who did not intervene or stop the woman.

One Instagram user wrote: “Mad not one person stepped in! Just as disgusting as what she did.”

Police said they today arrested a woman on suspicion of racially abusing a pub doorman in Birmingham city centre on Saturday night (22 May).

The woman was detained at 1pm today after she attended a police station at the force’s request.

She’s also accused of racially abusing another man who was stood near the pub entrance and earlier damaging furniture inside the premises.

She remains in police custody for questioning.

Birmingham Police Chief Inspector James Spencer, said: “It’s an awful incident and people are understandably disgusted. We said we would prioritise the investigation and that’s now led to the swift arrest of a suspect.

“Our city centre police teams have been working hard with local businesses to make the city a safe and enjoyable place to visit. Racist behaviour is completely unacceptable and we are taking this report very seriously.

“We are still in the process of trying to contact the victim and we would urge him to get in touch as soon as possible so we can take a statement.”

A Wetherspoon spokesman said: “This behaviour is completely unacceptable and the woman is barred for life.”
