Propery tycoon sues exclusive Park Royal dealership in row over 'unusable' rare £3.4m supercar

An exclusive car dealership is being sued by a property tycoon in a dispute over a £3.4 million supercar.

Multi-millionaire Tufan Kalman splashed out on a Pagani Zonda 760 Coupé — as the owner of only a handful of the custom-built Italian sportscars ever built — in February last year.

F1 star Lewis Hamilton is among the owners of a 760-series Zonda, which boasts a top speed of 218mph and is the most powerful of the car range that can be legally driven on UK roads.

However, Mr Kalman claims his supercar “cannot be used” because Park Royal-based dealership Pagani UK Ltd has failed to provide him with UK registration documents.

The Turkish businessman, in a High Court writ, is demanding the firm return the 3.85 million (£3.4 million) — plus interest — he paid for the car.

He claims that without the UK paperwork, he cannot register the vehicle in Switzerland where he lives. “To date Pagani UK Ltd has neither delivered the registration documents nor repaid the purchase price,” he says.

Mr Kalman argues he is entitled to rescind the contract and claim his money back, alleging the dealership “offered to refund the purchase price if they did not deliver the original UK documents by the end of September 2017”.

“There is no legal basis allowing the defendant to keep the purchase price,” the writ adds.

Mr Kalman is also demanding eight per cent interest on his money from November last year, and wants to be paid back in euros due to the fall in value of the pound.

A spokesperson for the dealership said it was aware of the legal proceedings and has instructed lawyers.

“We do know about it. Nothing is anywhere near as black and white as it looks on paper,” she said.

“We did supply Mr Kalman a Pagani Zonda which he accepted delivery of and he had it shipped overseas. Unfortunately I cannot comment on the other matter.”

Pagani UK Ltd’s defence statement is not yet available from the court and the allegations have not been tested before a judge.

In 2015, world champion Hamilton blamed “heavy partying” when he crashed his Zonda in Monaco.

He was driving through the streets of Monte Carlo in the early of hours when he lost control of his £1.5 million Pagani Zonda and crashed it into three parked cars. He was breathalysed at the scene but tested negative.

Hamilton blamed a lack of sleep for the crash.

A £1 million Pagani Zonda GJ was also in the headlines in 2015 when its uninsured driver lost control and crashed into metal fencing in an industrial estate in north-west London.
