The BBC is to film its political panel show Question Time from Wormwood Scrubs prison in front of an audience of prisoners and the public.
In a first for the programme, in which the public gets to quiz top decision makers, 10 prisoners will join the regular audience drawn from members of the public.
Justice Secretary Kenneth Clarke and former home secretary Jack Straw will be on the panel of the programme which will be shown next Thursday.
A BBC spokesman said: "There will be 10 prisoners, none of whom will have been serving for any violent crimes.
"They will be vetted by the prison staff and the BBC."
The decision to broadcast from the famous prison follows the ruling from the European Court of Human Rights last month to give the UK six months to comply with its ruling to extend the right to vote to convicted prisoners.
The prisoners will have the chance to join the debate by posing their questions to the panel. Some 30,000 members of the public apply to join the audience each year.
The show will be recorded at around 8.30pm next Thursday and then broadcast at 10.35pm.
The BBC spokesman said: "Question Time's decision to broadcast from Wormwood Scrubs next week follows the controversial decision of the European Court of Human Rights in April to give the UK six months to comply with its ruling to extend the right to vote to convicted prisoners. Panellists will include the Justice Secretary Ken Clarke and former Home Secretary Jack Straw."
Wormwood Scrubs Prison is a category B prison accepting inmates who are over 21 who and do not require maximum security.
