Prince Harry admitted his mother Diana would be “sad” about the rift between her two sons.

In his book Spare, Harry shares previously unknown details about his relationship with William, including a claim that he was physically assaulted by him in 2019.

As part of the book’s publicity blitz, the duke has been interviewed by American journalist Michael Strahan.

When asked by the Good Morning America co-anchor what Diana might think of the brothers’ current relationship, he said: “I think she would be sad. I think she would be looking at it long-term, to know that there are certain things that we need to go through, to be able to heal the relationship.

“I have felt the presence of my mum, more so in the last two years than I have in the last 30.” Harry was just 12 when his mother died in August 1997 following a car crash in Paris.

In the book, he said he regretted being “short” with her during their last phone call because he did not want to interrupt his play time with his brother.

Harry also revealed how he asked to be driven through the Pont d’Alma tunnel in Paris where she died at “precisely 65mph”, the speed at which the car was travelling at the time of her fatal crash.

He repeated the journey with William, and afterwards they discussed the accident for the first time, he said.
