David Cameron’s former strategy chief launched a new online tool today to provide voters with candidate information and help them crowd-fund political campaigns.

Steve Hilton’s Crowdpac analyses each of the mayoral candidate’s economic and social credentials and shows Londoners which is closest to their views.

The site gathered data from sources including social media and key speeches to place the candidates on the political spectrum.

Its “political matchmaker” then gives users their own map to show which politician they have most in common with.

It reveals Tory Zac Goldsmith is more centrist than Labour rival Sadiq Khan, and that while Green Sian Berry is the most Left-wing candidate, there are a cluster of smaller candidates between her and Mr Khan.

Mr Hilton said some “minority” candidates might be a better match for many voters.
