An image of a woman drinking cider in a bikini as Eastbourne Pier burns in the background has become an internet hit.
The image, which was uploaded to link sharing website Reddit, has received more than 998,000 views.
It shows a woman wearing a leopard print bikini in a 1940’s pin-up pose with her back turned to the burning landmark behind her.
Grade II listed Eastbourne Pier caught alight yesterday and is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.
At the height of the blaze 80 firefighters were drafted in to tackled the flames from the shore, sea and from underneath the pier.
All that remains is the building's structure which resembles a blackened carcass.
Tourists and locals thronged the beach and promenade to watch the pier gradually become engulfed in flames from around 3pm.
Although the area was busy with tourists enjoying the sun at the time there were no injuries or casualties.
