Paralympian had to crawl off train

One of Britain’s most successful disabled athletes was left to crawl off a train because nobody would help get her wheelchair onto the platform.

Tanni Grey Thompson, who sits on the board of Transport for London, revealed the regular problems she faces on public transport in an investigation by Channel 4 news.

Baroness Grey-Thompson, who has 11 Paralympic gold medals, said: “I use the train most weeks to commute and I have often been left on. Most recently, I was left on a train at midnight.

“Nobody came to get me and at that time of night there was no staff. I ended up having to get out of my chair, sit on the floor, which is not a terribly pleasant place to sit, throw my chair off the train and then crawl off.”
