Pair charged in Asaf murder inquiry

12 April 2012

Two teenagers have been charged with the murder of 28-year-old Asaf Mahmood Ahmed in Greater Manchester, police have said.

An 18-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy were charged with Mr Ahmed's murder after his body was found at the back of the Derby Ward Labour Club in Deane Road, Bolton, on Friday night.

The pair, who have not been named by police, will appear in court on a date to be set.

A post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death was inconclusive and further tests are being carried out.

Superintendent Andy Durkin, of Greater Manchester Police, said Mr Ahmed had left the family home intending to go and purchase a few items from a local shop.

"He had passed a shop that was open en route to the place where he sustained his injuries and I would appeal for anyone who can explain why, or indeed has witnessed anything prior to this incident or during it that may assist in the investigation, to contact police," he said.

The Deane area of Bolton is the centre of a large Asian area in the town.
