The Duchess of Sussex’s blockbuster interview with Oprah Winfrey will give the former actress “her voice back”, a friend has claimed.

Meghan and Harry recorded the tell-all interview in California last week ahead of the formal announcement that they would be stepping down permanently as working members of the Royal Family.

A friend of couple told the Sunday Times that Meghan felt she had “lost her voice” when she first started dating the prince.

“She had a platform as a moderately successful actress, and when she was told to stop using her social media and be careful what she said, I could tell that loss of voice and independence pained her.” the friend said.

“Having an institutional voice within the Royal Family wasn’t enough. This interview will be the loudest way she’ll get her voice back.”

On Friday, Buckingham Palace released a statement confirming the couple’s decision to step down permanently as working royals.

“Following conversations with the duke, the Queen has written confirming that in stepping away from the work of the Royal Family it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service,” the statement said.

“The honorary military appointments and Royal patronages held by the duke and duchess will therefore be returned to Her Majesty, before being redistributed among working members of The Royal Family.

“While all are saddened by their decision, the duke and duchess remain much loved members of the family.”

A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan added: “As evidenced by their work over the past year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain committed to their duty and service to the UK and around the world, and have offered their continued support to the organisations they have represented regardless of official role.

“We can all live a life of service. Service is universal.”

On Tuesday the Duke of Edinburgh was admitted into King Edward VII hospital on Tuesday, after feeling unwell.

A statement from Buckingham Palace said the duke was there as a “precautionary measure” and reports claim he entered the hospital on Tuesday evening in “high spirits”.

On Wednesday, a statement from Buckingham Palace said: “His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to King Edward VII’s Hospital in London on Tuesday evening.

“The duke’s admission is a precautionary measure, on the advice of His Royal Highness’s doctor, after feeling unwell.

“The duke is expected to remain in hospital for a few days of observation and rest.”

Prince Charles was the first to visit the duke and was seen arriving at the hospital at around 3.20pm on Saturday in a grey Tesla car, and exited the vehicle wearing a face mask, before leaving around 30 minutes later.

It is understood the prince travelled from his home in Highgrove, Gloucestershire, to the hospital in central London, a journey of around 100 miles.

Also on Saturday, Buckingham Palace confirmed Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank has named their baby son August Philip Hawke Brooksbank.

The palace released an image of the couple with their baby boy, who was born at the Portland Hospital in central London at 8.55am on February 9.

Eugenie posted the picture to Instagram with the caption: “We wanted to introduce you to August Philip Hawke Brooksbank.

“Thank you for so many wonderful messages. Our hearts are full of love for this little human, words can’t express.

“We are excited to be able to share these photos with you.”
