One in three 'dread' Christmas

A third of people dread the festive season and don't get into the spirit of celebrating Christmas, according to a new survey.

The poll of 2,500 adults by Zurich Insurance shows that men were more likely to be party poopers, with one in five admitting they felt like Scrooge.

Half of men said they had little goodwill any more because they believed Christmas had become too commercial.

Many men said they would rather spend money on other things and thought too much emphasis was put on buying presents, although they liked receiving them.

Martin Hall of Zurich said: "It's surprising to see that not everyone enjoys the festivities, and also interesting that most of us love the present giving."
