'Oldest mother' keeps mum about son

12 April 2012

A 66-year-old businesswoman thought to be the UK's oldest new mother has been keeping mum about her baby son.

The hospital where Elizabeth Adeney is believed to have given birth earlier this week said she wanted "no publicity".

And a friend staying at her home in Lidgate, Suffolk, said he could make "no comment on anything".

Mrs Adeney's Renault car was parked outside the house with a baby seat fitted in the back.

Neighbours said Mrs Adeney, who is divorced, had kept her pregnancy secret.

Earlier this month Mrs Adeney had refused to speak to journalists about her pregnancy and drove away from her home at speed to avoid being photographed.

She is understood to have undergone fertility treatment abroad and delivered her baby by caesarian section.

A spokesman for Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, said: "She has told us that she wants no publicity."
