Oh... sugar! Swearing is hardest vice to break, says bad habits poll

6 June 2012

Swearing is the most difficult habit to break, beating the likes of drinking too much caffeine, smoking, and chewing finger nails, according to a poll.

More than a quarter (26%) of the 600 people questioned said that using too many expletives in conversations was their biggest vice, the survey by ECigaretteDirect.co.uk found.

Drinking too much caffeine came second in the poll, with 18% saying giving up their daily cups of tea and coffee was the hardest thing to quit.

Chewing fingernails came third with 15%, while 13% said they could not give up watching television and 10% said smoking was the habit they wished they could kick.

A spokesman for ECigaretteDirect.co.uk said: "We all have bad habits which we are embarrassed about.

"However, it is interesting to see that the majority believe swearing is the hardest gripe to get rid of.

"For better or worse, swearing has become more socially acceptable than it was 30 years ago. Therefore it is no wonder that more and more people are finding it increasingly difficult to kick the habit."
