Great Ormond Street Hospital nurses have volunteered to care for Charlie Gard if he is allowed to spend his final days in a hospice, the High Court heard today.

The parents of terminally ill Charlie want to move him out of the hospital for the days before his life support machine will be turned off.

Chris Gard and Connie Yates announced on Monday they were ending their legal fight to take their son to USA for experimental treatment for his medical condition.

They have now returned to court to ask Mr Justice Francis for permission to move Charlie to a hospice where they can spend his final days together.

Putting the plan to the court this afternoon, their lawyer Grant Armstrong announced that the parents no longer want Charlie to be brought home to die.

He said the family have found a doctor to lead Charlie's care in a hospice, and have also receive offers of nursing support.

"Ironically the position is that several of the nurses at Great Ormond Street Hospital have volunteered to assist in the care of Charlie", he said.

"We are able to put in place a plan for nursing staff funded privately."

The parents have also spoken to a firm that will hire them ventilator machines, subject to hospital doctors agreeing to prescribe Charlie the drugs he needs.

The doctor, who is could lead a team looking after Charlie and offering him palliative care, is travelling to court where he is due to speak to representatives from Great Ormond Street Hospital .

Mr Armstrong told the court Charlie is due to spend "a week or so" in the hospice before the life support machine is turned off.
