No charges for chief News of the World reporter

27 April 2012

A forner News of the World chief reporter was today cleared of intimidating a witness during Scotland Yard’s phone-hacking investigation.

Neville Thurlbeck was told he will face no charges after he published the home address of an executive helping the Met investigate alleged criminality at News International.

Detectives arrested the 50-year-old in March after he posted on his blog the London street name of the home of Will Lewis, a key figure in News Corp’s management and standards committee, which is examining 300  million emails and handing over suspicious messages to police.

Scotland Yard passed a file on Mr Thurlbeck to the Crown Prosecution Service this month, but a CPS spokeswoman said no further action would be taken. Mr Thurlbeck remains on bail on suspicion of phone-hacking during his time at the newspaper.
