Kensington Palace has released an adorable new photograph of Prince George with his dad Prince William ahead of the toddler's birthday tomorrow.

The young prince, who is third in line to the throne, was pictured grinning in his father's arms ahead of the occasion.

Kensington Palace tweeted the picture, by Mario Testino, alongside the caption: "Look who's turning two tomorrow! #HappyBirthdayPrinceGeorge".

It shows the Duke of Cambridge holding Prince George in the gardens at Sandringham House.

It was part of the series of official photographs taken by the renowned photographer following Princess Charlotte's baptism on Sunday 5th July.

A spokesman for Kensington Palace said: "This photograph captures a very happy moment on what was a special day for The Duke and Duchess and their family.

"They are very pleased to share this picture as they celebrate Prince George's second birthday."

To mark the young prince's birthday, his family are set to hold a low-key celebration at their Anmer Hall country retreat on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.

Last year, George was treated to a party at Kensington Palace where his great-grandmother the Queen was guest of honour.

Today's pictures come after a series of charming photos, also shot by Testino, were released following Princess Charlotte's christening earlier this month.

One touching shot showed the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge with their two young children smiling widely on the lawn outside the Church of St Mary Magdalene in Sandringham.

A Kensington Palace spokesman said at the time: "They are very happy to share these photographs and hope that everyone enjoys them as much as they do."
