Network Rail to revamp maintenance

12 April 2012

Network Rail is planning to restructure its maintenance operations in a bid to improve the way it operates the UK's rail network, the company said.

The firm said that new technology and improved standards would allow it to prevent faults as well as eliminating delays to trains.

A spokesman said managers were discussing the plans with union representatives but stressed that no final decisions had been made.

The company could not confirm reports that the move would lead to substantial job losses.

"We have a clear commitment to the British people to reduce the costs of running the railway.

"Our plans to restructure our maintenance teams will improve the way we operate the network.

"We are discussing our plans with our people and their union representatives and no final decisions have been made."
