Murray wished good luck by Beckham

12 April 2012

Andy Murray received a boost ahead of his Wimbledon semi-final clash - a good luck message from David Beckham.

The former England captain emailed Murray to tell him how impressed he was with his form and to wish him well for the match.

The pair are said to get on well and regularly keep in touch.

They have met before in person, including on a visit to Downing Street in April when they were giving their backing to an anti-malaria campaign.

Murray was preparing to face American Andy Roddick on Centre Court.

But he had time to post a message on his Twitter site, saying: "What's up? Had a hit, back in lockers. Good luck message from david beckham last night. Thanks!"

Earlier in the tournament Murray received a letter of encouragement from the Queen.

Former James Bond actor Sir Sean Connery phoned his fellow Scot to wish him all the best and singer Sir Cliff Richard sent a hand-written message.

There has also been a wealth of support from the royal box on his way to the semis, where stars including Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet have cheered him on.
