Mother remanded over 'terror plot'

12 April 2012

A young mother has been remanded in custody in connection with the alleged airliner bomb plot.

Cossor Ali, 24, appeared before City of Westminster Magistrates' Court in central London charged in connection with the alleged conspiracy to blow up transatlantic passenger jets.

Ali, from Walthamstow, east London, is accused of failing to disclose information about her husband, Ahmed Abdullah Ali - who is also charged over the alleged plot.

There was no formal application for bail during the hearing and Ali, who has an eight-month old baby, was remanded in custody until September 19.

Her legal representative, David Gottlieb, was told by the judge, Nicholas Evans, that he would have to give the courts 48 hours' notice if he wished to make a bail application before then.

A total of 14 people have been charged over the alleged plot, while one 17-year-old youth arrested in connection with the investigation is facing a separate terrorism charge.

Detectives are continuing to question five people and have until Wednesday evening to decide whether to charge or release them.
